The Plaque for the Town Hall - photograph courtesy of Derek Whiting

This plaque is on the wall of the Town Hall, in the centre of Stokesley.

As the plaque says, the building was erected in 1853. During the latter part of the 20th century, the building had become run down, and little used in the town. However, a "Local Hero" (according to the Harrogate Advertiser), George Carter, was instrumental in planning, organising, and arranging the funding for a large scale renovation. Now the Town Hall is an important part of local community life.
